For over thirty years in government and politics, I’ve been inspired by courageous women who have had the determination and foresight to run for office against the odds and make a difference. Now, the time is right for me to join them.
I’m writing to ask for your support in my campaign for the Democratic nomination in Assembly District 45.
Two months ago, I joined the women who were putting their careers in jeopardy by signing the #metoo letter – because it was the right thing to do. Last week, I put my own career at risk by announcing that I would run against an incumbent with over $1 million in the bank – because it was the right thing to do.
Today, I am excited by the tremendous support and encouragement I have received from friends and co-workers. As most of you know, public service is my life’s work. I will labor tirelessly to be a thoughtful and serious public servant.
I will be ready on day one to work for the systematic change that we sorely need. I served with two Assemblymembers from this district. I know the community because I’ve lived here in the San Fernando Valley for over 40 years. In the months ahead I will seek an open and honest debate about real issues. Why is it that housing is unaffordable? Why can’t we fix our roads? Why can’t we protect the environment and grow our economy? And why is affordable health care a privilege when it should be a right?
My generation of women leaders know that now is not the time to sit by and watch as history is being made. I hope you will join me today by endorsing my candidacy and making a financial contribution.
